Name: James Oloyede (WAHEB, B.SC - 1991, M.SC - 1994; PH.D – 2017; MNSN, MEHRECON, FICAD).

Biography
A seasoned Community and Public Health Nutrition expert with over 25 years’ experience in primary health care, public and environmental health, James is a first class graduate and a Master’s degree holder from the premier University of Ibadan. An astute resource person/trainer for leading international institutions like UNICEF, he pioneered the State Committee on Food and Nutrition, School Feeding Programmes, and coordinatedtheconstruction and equipping of over 30 MDGs PHC Centres across the State. James is an author, a Fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Chartered Administrators, and has concluded with PH.D research.

Welcome to the Department of Nutrition Services and Health Education, one of the eight departments of the SPHCDB.
The department believes that the goal of Health for All will only be achievable through community healthcare services that are close to homes and communities where people live, while employing community-based interventions, backed up with health promotional activities.
The overall function of the Department is to create community demand for, and ensure that a complete package of care, based on the Ward Minimum Health Care Package (WMHCP) is available to communities across the State. This includes health promotion and community mobilization; maternal, neonate and child health care services; Family planning and modern contraception, adequate nutrition; control of endemic diseases; sexual and reproductive health services.
To effectively carry out its functions, the Department is made up of the following Divisions:
1.  Advocacy, Community Mobilization and Health Promotion Division:

  •  develops and coordinates all advocacy activities
  • develop social mobilization and community engagement strategies
  • design learning experiences to help communities improve their health, by increasing their knowledge or influencing their attitudes.
  • manages the Board’s Resource Centre

2. Family Health, Reproductive and Community Health Division develops and coordinates strategies:

  • Maternal, newborn and child survival (Focus antenatal care of newborn, IPT)
  • Family Planning and modern contraception
  • Adolescent and sexual health
  • Community diagnosis and screening for non-communicable diseases
  • School health services

3. Nutrition Division develops and coordinates strategies for:

  • Management of Severe and Acute Malnutrition
  • Micronutrient Deficiency Control (monitoring of iodized salt, food fortification and dietary diversification) 
  • Infant and Young Child Feeding
  • Adolescent and Maternal Nutrition
  • Maternal Newborn and Child Health Week
  • Technical support for School Feeding Programme, State Committee on Food and Nutrition and similar committee with nutrition component
  • Inter-sectoral collaborations for Nutrition

4. Control of endemic diseases Division develops and coordinates strategies for:

  • Onchocerciasis
  • Schistosomiasis
  •  Malaria
  •  other neglected tropical diseases
