Department of Medical Laboratory services play a significant role in preventive, diagnostic, therapeutic and monitoring services at all levels of health care delivery. Reliable, integrated and well managed Medical Laboratory services are essential for an acceptable quality of community health care management and sustainability.

Biography

A Medical Laboratory Scientist from Ila Local Government in the State of Osun. A Fellow of Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria and a Masters’ Degree holder in Chemical Pathology. Professionally with thirty two years of working experience and a member of the State Quality Assurance team on HIV/AIDS. With an attitude of self-motivation, creativity and initiative to achieve goals. A leader who is able to build team cohesion with excellent human relation skill.

Name of Deputy Director: Yusuff   Adewale Akeem

A Medical   Laboratory Scientist. Yussuf hails from Iwo in Iwo Local Government, State of Osun. Specialized in Chemical Pathology and Fellow of the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria in the field of Medical Microbiology. His career in the Primary Health Care service in the State of Osun started in 2005. Has participated in the National Malaria, TB and HIV programs as a Microscopist and Quality Control Officer aside from performing routine Laboratory investigations. Trained in Fluorescence Microscopy for the diagnosis of Tuberculosis in the National Reference Laboratory for Mycobacteria Benin Republic and holds a Master Degree in Clinical Biochemistry and Toxicology.

Functions includes:

  • Taking charge of general administration of Department of Medical Laboratory Services.
  • Budgeting and ordering of Medical Laboratory Equipment and Reagents.
  • Advising on formulation, execution and review of Medical Laboratory policies.
  • Representing the Primary Health Care Board at the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria.
  • Co-operating with World Health Organization and other International or National Organizations in the study of new methods and techniques for use in Medical Laboratory.
  • Carrying out routine diagnostic tests in various disciplines; for generation of accurate, reliable, reproducible, timely and cost effective Medical Laboratory test results to be utilized for the Quality management of patients. 
  • Training and supervision of supportive staffs (Medical Laboratory Scientists, Medical Laboratory Technicians and Medical Laboratory Assistants).
  • Evaluating and monitoring reports on epidemiological surveys.
  • Ensuring and maintaining quality control of standard techniques and reports.
  • Serving as consultant where and when such service is needed.

Units under Medical Laboratory Services Department includes Routine Medical Laboratory Services Unit, Public Health Laboratory Unit and Validation/Quality Control/Quality Assurance Unit.
