The department was one of the pioneering departments established since the creation of the board in February 2017. The pioneer director was Dr. Oluwole Samson Fabiyi and the pioneer deputy director was Dr. Abimbola Oladepo Akintayo. The various units under the department are: Immunization; Family Planning and Reproductive Health; Neglected Tropical Diseases; Malaria; HIV; Tuberculosis and Leprosy; School health.
Roles and responsibilities includes:
- To coordinate and supervise the activities of the secretaries of the local government health authorities.
- To coordinate and supervise the health interventions under the program officers of the department
- To act as the first line response in the board for control of public health emergencies.
- To collaborate with other departments in the board in supervising the smooth operations of the health facilities through LGHA
- To coordinate the general planning, administration and monitoring of medical services in the board.
Director:
Dr. Mrs. T.O. Anifowose is a trained Medical Doctor with the University of Ibadan/University College Hospital in June 1983. She started working as a Public Health Officer in 1985, with the defunct Oyo State Civil Service as a Medical Officer of Health. She has also worked in various capacities under the Cholera Unit, State Immunization Office, Jericho Chest Clinic, St. Peters Maternity, Aremu and Oni Memorial Children Hospital Ring Road. She continued in the Service after the creation of Osun State and has worked as Medical Officer of Health, as well as in Administrative capacities in various LGAs, including Ede North, Ede South, Irepodun, Ife Central and Obokun. She is happily married and blessed with Children.
Deputy Director: Dr. Abimbola Oladepo Akintayo is the Deputy Director of Medical Services and Disease Control. He was trained as a medical doctor at the University of Ilorin. As professional experiences and certifications, he has: Certificates of competence in Obstetrics emergencies, Implants insertion, current management of many clinical conditions e.g. malaria, Diabetes mellitus etc. Basic Health Care Provision Fund (BHCPF) implementation. He is a facilitator for many curative and preventive medical workshops and trainings at both local and state levels.
Previous Posts held include: Medical Officer in charge of secondary health facilities between 1994 and 2017; Zonal Coordinator of OSAMDO between 2015 and 2017 and currently the BHCPF Desk officer from December 2018 to present.
